Information

Welcome to the world of robots! With your paints and ideas, design, color, and create your own robots that can move thanks to the magic of optical illusion. The transparent frame with the magical vertical stripes, included in the book, will unlock your imagination and bring your creations to life!

The shadow play technique owes its name to an optical toy that was in vogue in the early 20th century: a small Chinese shadow theater consisting of a roll of paper, which unfolded behind a transparent frame with black vertical stripes.

This clever mechanism allowed the characters in the story to come to life, alternately presenting the two stages of a movement to the viewers.

As in cinema or animation, the illusion of movement is caused by the retina's ability to retain an image for a fraction of a second after it has disappeared. The same principle underlies flip books with static sequential images. If you flip through them quickly, you get the impression that the images are moving.

Creating a robot is finally a simple matter! It's your turn to assemble, activate, deactivate your robot and watch its gears move on paper thanks to this fun activity book!

A 32-page kids book by Frederique Bertrand and Michael Leblond.
